Anyone planning on further banditry in Acton... if you're using a low to the ground pad (or any for that matter) it may behoove you to bring a *fire extinguisher*. Grass is getting kinda dry.

A few weeks ago I gave a friend of mine's father an Estes Patriot kit.
He has it built and ready to fly. We are thinking of heading to Acton either Saturday or Sunday. I'll post here in case any fellow Bandits want to join in.

The grass in very dry, although we are supposed to get rain on Wednesday. I concur with what John said about bringing a fire extinguisher. I'll be sure to bring one with me.

Just wanted to mention a few things about the launch pad I built.
I don't think I mentioned a thank you to Todd Lainhart for passing on information to me about his Pratt Hobbies pad that I kind of copied.

The 1 1/2 inch PVC piping and fittings were very inexpensive.
Nuts and bolts at Lowe's were also inexpensive. The 1/4" six-foot launch rod from Grainger was less that $4.00 if you pick it up in Everett near the casino. I got a 3/16" 3-foot rod at Lowe's for a couple of dollars. The aluminum strip I used for the bracket was $8.00 at Lowe's.

I bought a 10-foot piece of 3/4" PVC pipe and fittings that I cut down to store the launch rods. The whole 9 yards was under $30.00.

The Pratt Hobbies pad uses 2 1/2" PVC and 3/8" bolts compared to the 5/16" that I used. It can handle bigger rockets.

A fire blanket is a good idea. Maybe borrow the clubs.

Even a tarp and/or paint drop cloth is a good idea and better than nothing.

This will probably get me banned from the Forum but here goes:
I consider that a blanket statement.

On a more serious note. I just checked Windy.com. Although it will be hot, Saturday will be dry, so far. I made a slight modification to my launch pad as suggested by John P. and I would like to test it out. Are any of you Bandits interested in launching in Acton on Saturday? You can reply here or email me via the CMASS site.

I hope all is well. Wondering if you guys are going out in the future if you might let me know. My son (6) has a Mercury Redstone rocket. He is currently working on a Saturn V that may still take some time to finish.
thanks
Fred
