Well looks like soonest I can do my Cert 1 Flight with my Mini BBX will be November 8. I have my main chute, the altimeter and motor casing on order and then I'll finally have a complete rocket, obviously sans the motor. I was wondering about what to do about Motor retention or if I even need to worry much about it. I'm running it with PML's CPR3K so I'm not using a motor delay to deploy the aft drogue chute - in fact there is a bulk head between the motor and the drogue compartment so the drogue could not even be deployed by a motor delay. I'm thinking that as long as the motor casing is a snug fit in the MMT, there are no forces that would cause it to eject. I hope the question makes sense and sorry for the noob question. Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Randy,
Welcome to CMASS.
With any high power motor it is a good idea to have positive motor retention.
options:
> threaded rod along side motor tube, bolt and washer retain motor
> threaded hole along side motor tube, screw and washer retains motor
> motor retention hardware, good quality: www.aeropack.net/motorretainers.asp
This reduces the chance of dropping and leaving a motor case at the field.
Some fields, like MMMS require it.

Thank you Boris. I had hoped to some day get the Terrier Booster for the BBX. Unfortunately, Public Missiles says "The Mini-BBX CANNOT use a motor retainer of any kind if it will someday be used with the Terrier booster. Sorry." I guess maybe I should give up on flying it with the booster and be safe.

Have you got a picture of the bottom looking at the motor mount? I'll bet we can come up with a retainer that can be removed if you fly it two stage.

Well not sure best way to post photos, but here's a photo bucket link. Hopefully that works. I posted a flash and non flash picture of the motor area. I also am hoping to make it to the meeting on Tuesday and If so, I'll bring it with me.

If you get lost in my photobucket, you'll see the pics of my 1969 firebird restoration. Haha - another passion of mine. So many hobbies, so little time and definitely very little money.
