The MIT USLI Rocket Team invites all Boston area high school and after-school rocketry clubs to compete in the 2011-2012 MIT USLI Rocketry Payload Competition!

This year, the MIT Rocket Team will build and fly a rocket in NASA’s University Student Launch Initiative (USLI). As a part of this competition, the Rocket Team would like to launch a scientific payload designed and built by local, Boston area students! Any interested student groups may propose an idea for a payload or scientific experiment. The group with the best design will be funded to build their proposed payload, which will then be flown in April aboard MIT’s USLI Rocket!

Proposed payloads should be 8 lbs or less, and must fit within a 24” cylinder with a diameter of 5.5” Payloads also should not contain any vertebrate animals, flammables, explosives, or things that protrude from the side of the payload tube. Small holes in payload tube are acceptable.

All scientific payload proposals should include a summary of the idea (including any necessary figures or diagrams), possible challenges the team may come across when building their payload, and a budget estimate for the suggested payload. Proposals should be submitted to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by January 20.
