Training for an away fire event was created by KennB
Club member Alan Swanson has offered to conduct another training session on the use of our fire fighting equipment. It's been about 10 years since our previous class and there are many new members and others attending our launches. We did a great job with the fire we had in Amesbury last year but we can use more trained people in the club.

The class will be held at 3 PM on 15 April In Atkinson, NH, if the weather cooperates. There will be some classroom time reviewing a Power Point presentation on the basics of fighting the types of fires we could face at our launches followed by field work that could include supressing an actual fire. Participants should wear denim jeans and hiking or work boots.

Please respond to this thread to let us get an accurate head count. Even if you feel you aren't physically up to the challenge of actually fighting the fire, there are benefits to having the knowledge of what to do in these situations. If you've had this training before, feel free to join us for a refresher. Alan has served as a volunteer fire fighter for brush fires and is affiliated with his local fire department.

No prior experience necessary. As Kenn described, there is a combat role (at the fire) and a support role (coordinating resources), so everyone is welcome and strongly encouraged to attend. The classroom session will run 3-5PM, and the practical hands-on session will run 5-7pm. There are equally important support role duties for the practical hands-on session. For the combat role you must be in good health and capable of light to moderate physical activity. If you rake your own leaves, shovel snow and otherwise actively maintain your own home that's perfect. Required clothing cotton (non-synthetic) long pants and leather work boots. Bring a water bottle for your hydration. Recommended safety glasses and work gloves. Sturdy hiking footwear is acceptable alternative.

The event shall be held regardless of fire weather conditions. If fire danger level unfavorable, fire lines shall be marked on the ground and practical hands-on work shall be done.

Linda and I will attend. I'm not sure about the hands on part but we will at least observe.

It would be great to have some younger members sign up for this.
