2011 TARC Finalists Announced was created by bobkrech
6 out of 15 MA TARC teams and 4 out of 5 NH TARC teams made qualifying flights for TARC 2011, but New England has only 2 finalists this year: one from MA and the second from NH.

Congratulations to Team 9016 from Hastings Middle School, Fairhaven, MA aka Team Katan, and to Team 9570 from Merrimack High School, Merrimack, NH mentored by Jim Flis for making the Final 100.

Most TARC teams attending our 2 qualification days worked hard, but this was a tough year for New England teams as the weather was not condusive to rocket flying and quite a few teams did not get enough practice to tune their rockets. Your odds of getting a low score go up if you start early and practice a lot. The TARC 2012 rules are published over the summer and CMASS extends an invitation to all TARC team to join us during our summer and fall launches and get some practice flights in before winter.

The Hastings Middle School team, Paul Katan, Jared and Connor, are very excited about qualifying for the TARC finals. The boys have been learning a lot about planning, teamwork and communication as well as having a lot of fun flying rockets.

They have done a lot of work building and tuning their rocket. They were also fortunate that their best flight to date was one of their qualifying flights.

All involved feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to take part in a TARC final. The boys and their families are already talking over travel plans.

Thanks to all the great folks at CMASS for providing a fun and supportive flying environment.

Thank you very much to Howard Greenblatt for sponsoring a number of RoadRunner motors and the loan of a rail.

Replied by bobkrech on topic 2011 TARC Scores Annnounced
This year the scores for the top 100 teams were 15.87 or lower. The scores for the 20 teams named (in order of score) as alternates were between
16.00 and 19.00.

These are amazingly low set of finalist scores: basically 750\' +/-~15\' within the 40-45 second time window, or a perfect altitude with a time not much less than 35 seconds nor much more than 50 seconds. In percentages that\'s a +/-2% altitude window within an allowed +/-~6% no penalty time window, and a perfect altitude within a +/-~18% penalty time window.

That makes being a finalist really something special.
