My somewhat feable attempt to combine the Paris Olympics with Kenn's birthday. It was Kenn's birthday, it was a great launch day, and there was cake! Who needs the Olympics?
There was another large crowd, no scout packs or school groups, but there were a number of new faces and new families - and we like to see that! The temps were in the 80's, sunny with no to little wind. Unfortunately it blew toward the trees and the trees did take their share. Both Happy Chutes and Wildman CT were there. I know Wildman was busy most of the day. We do like having vendors at our launches, so please do your best to support them (i.e. buy something!). We had XXXX flights with motors ranging from 13 mm through G and at least 2 CATO's, and a lot going on. So here goes.
Very apropo for the concurrent Olympics in Paris, Bruce Strong launched is Eiffel Tower. It took a few tries to get off the pad, but when it did, it was a nice flight. He also flew is scratch-built Luna. It came down a little fast and popp'ed a fin but should be repairable for another Destination Moon in the future. It was a hot summer day, perfect for some corn-on-the cob and ice cream, and Scott didn't dissapoint us and launched both of his! Dick Pelle had some really nice water rocket flights; certainly the best I've seen. Two Sirius Interrogators saw flight. One was Rob Caswell's on a C11-3 and mine on a F50-6T - and no they are not the same rocket. I also launched by Fractal on a D12-3 that landed way-to-close to the trees! It will be C11's from now on at Acton! Josh Drummand (Happy Chutes) launched his Black Lightning twice on two complex clusters: Quest E26W (2), F41W-5; and Quest D22W (2), F41W-5. Both worked great.
The flight of the day had to be Cian Barry's Drago BG. What a great glide; it was fantastic!
Thanks to Kenn, Guy, Bruce, Matt, Linda, Todd, John P., Jim, Liz and everyone else who helped out with food, set up and take down. Special thanks to Frank and Linda for cake! Pictures are in the Gallery. Please post yours. Our next launch is Aug 17 in Acton- be there!
