 Once again Jim Salem got us invited to do a demo launch at the Acton Winter Carnival. Last year it was canceled because of too much snow. The year before it was held at night and it was exceptionally cold. Compared to that the weather was pleasant. We set up at the base of a hill with a constant breeze coming from over the hill blowing in the direction of the pond. We had more spectators than we expected so it was good that we had several members show up to provide a continuous stream of flights. Spools, saucers and a few composite flights were crowd pleasers. In spite of the less than ideal conditions I'm pretty sure everything was recovered including a couple of water and tree retrievals. I think we've had different weather every year that we've held our January Acton  launch. It wasn't as cold (or as warm)  as it's been in other years but it's never been as windy. And what would you expect people to fly on a cold windy day? Gliders of course. With one notable exception, they flew surprisingly well. The constant for our winter launches seems to be good attendance. There were at least 30 cars parked along the rod and evidently most were driven by flyers because we had 103 flights in four hours. The majority of the flights were A and B but several brave people flew F and G motors. There are photos in the gallery.
