Launch!

ARC Launch 3/7/2026

We're on for the 07 March ARC launch. Due to the snow cover still on the field and parking area, we ask that we not have any extra CMASS members show up. In recent years, we've been able to accommodate sport launching for our volunteers. For this first ARC launch of the month, we already have enough people committed to take care of the teams that will be flying with us.

With the warm weather predicted for the upcoming week, I hope to return to our volunteer "bonus" flying on the 21st.

The currently cleared area is small and insufficient for the launch. We also had several inches of snow since it was cleared last Saturday. Depending on the wind, it may also be too close to the road.

Please ask any teams planning to come to bring snow shovels as we'll need help clearing a launch area on Saturday.

I will drive by the field tomorrow and let you know if room has been cleared for parking. If not, we may need to cancel the official launch. Even in that case, if teams are ready, I'd be happy to host some informal launches.

Masconomet will be there early. Way before 11 to assess and do practice launches so we can be ready to roll at 11. I am going to notify the team of the snow conditions. This shouldn't be a problem because we've been launching all winter. Hopefully there will be enough of a flat area where we can set up.

We're also going to bring some Estes tripod launches and "wind rockets" to launch to give us a bearing. We have all our own equipment so all should be good.

Weather looks ok, but morning slightly higher chance of rain at 20% w/ humidity at 98% (wow!)

Thanks for support. I'm assuming the go/no go launch will be on the website somewhere? If not, how do I contact?

Who will make the call and by what time?

Thanks again for hosting this.

Yes, we're still on for Saturday the 7th. A previous use of the field has cleared some area they used for their ARC practice with Jim Salem. We're hoping the DPW cleared some of the parking area.

I am guessing that the Acton filed will be covered with 12-18" of snow on Saturday even given the recent rather balmy weather. Saturday is looking dry and cool, but the field will be snowy. Are we still on for the launch? Please advise.
