There has been a recent push at NAR HQ about angling launch rods five degrees away from crowds, trying to get the prevailing wind to be a cross wind to the spectators, and doing a little more due diligence on saucers and other forms of oddrocks. Experience is a good teacher.
The one pint cherry tomato basket from whole foods looked like a good candidate for a saucer. Rocksim gave it a heads up (cringe) for stability. I have understanding neighbors and seven acres to work with. Flight was vertical due to momentum off the rod but the sucker spun like crazy for the rest of the flight. What was supposed to be four hundred feet on a c11-0 was more like forty. At least the crowd was limited to myself and my daughter in a range large enough to support D motors on rockets with enough mass and/or drag to keep the altitude below ca. 500'.
