I can think a way to do it but it would ugly up what is a really nice looking rocket.

Thanks! The firebird has even farther to go than my rocket.

I don't really want to ugly it up so I'll skip the two stage flying and fit a more discrete retainer. Do you have any experience with the retainer by Slimline? Do you know if it would work in this application?

I've never used one because I don't like that circle clip that I'm sure I'd send flying across the room never to be seen again. However, I just noticed that they have them with threaded retainers. I like that.

Someone on Rocketry Forum has the Mini BBX with the booster and said that I can actually use the slimline and still fly with the terrier booster. I'm gonna give it a shot. Thanks for your help!

The Mini BBX has a conical tailcone. If you use a conical mating socket on the terrier booster to couple the two stages together, once the booster burns out, you should get a nice drag separation regardless of how you do motor retention in the Mini BBX.
