Jason Nadeau and Anthony Milano have started a new NAR rocket club on Lake Winnipesaukee! The frozen lake launch range has a 16K ceiling, and a huge recovery area! The meeting point is Gilford Beach on Varney Point Road in Gilford, NH. They will be launching from off-shore on the ice near Welches island. The meetup time is 10 a.m. at the beach parking and it is 2 miles to Welches island or you can park at the Boat Launch up the road and it is 3/4 mile walk out to Welches island. The next launch is this Saturday, 2 March 2019.

Here is their Facebook page:

I did a low power launch on a lake in Wakefield, NH years ago with a Boy Scout Troop. One of the rockets landed about a mile away but it was recovered by one of the Scouts. Recovery on a frozen lake does have its advantages. No trees or high brush.

Yes, but one rarely has to worry about falling through a hay field and drowning.

The day before we went ice fishing on that lake in Wakefield, NH. The entire three feet of the power auger bit went in before we hit water.

From Jason - The launch has been moved to Sunday, March 3rd. If you are planning on going, please park at 31 Dock Rd. Gilford, NH 03249. The ice is currently 26" thick with temps into the single digits over the next few days. The ice thickness will not be a concern.

A few questions:
How often will launches be scheduled?
Will it just be HP?
What if you have a mid power rocket that uses 10/10 rails?
Will there be any pads with 1/8 or 3/16 rods?
